EV Charger Installation in Brock Township

The long drive home and Brock's two utilities

Brock is commuter country at the far north end of Durham Region. If you work in Whitby, Oshawa or Toronto, the daily run down Highway 12 through Sunderland, or southwest on Highway 48, adds up quickly, and a standard 120-volt outlet cannot put a round trip like that back overnight in January. In Brock, the utility usually follows the village line. Beaverton, Cannington and Sunderland homes, old and new

Each of the three villages grew from something specific. Beaverton, first settled in 1822, was originally known as Calder's Mills and still has its Old Stone Church of 1853. Cannington took root on the Beaver River in 1833 as McCaskill's Mills, and Sunderland grew quickly once the Toronto and Nipissing Railway came through around 1871. On those original village streets the panel gets looked at before anything else, since it may have been replaced more than once, and so does any detached garage or shed you park in that would need its own feed.

Beaverton has two new subdivisions on the township's construction list. The township scheduled earthworks for a Logan Homes subdivision at Nine Mile Road and Maplewood Avenue to start in July 2024. A plan at Osborne Street and Concession Road 5, with 141 single-detached houses and 65 townhouses, was draft approved in February 2026. In a new detached house there, the panel and attached garage often sit close together, which keeps a charger circuit short.

Lake Simcoe shoreline and farm properties across Brock

Brock's shoreline follows the east side of Lake Simcoe through Port Bolster, Thorah Beach and Gamebridge, and cottages dot much of it. Some have been winterized into full-time homes. A building that started as a three-season place may still have a small service, an overhead drop or a panel never sized for electric heat, let alone a car, so the meter and main breaker photos come before any quote.
